n8n commission controls for B2B SaaS affiliate networks

B2B SaaS Affiliate Networks can reconcile FirstPromoter Tracking with Stripe API payment status in n8n, using Claude to summarize suspicious patterns for review. Commission eligibility must use deterministic rules and verified events. “Freezing a Stripe payout” is not a universal API operation: your ability to delay a commission depends on the configured payout platform and whether funds have already been released.

Tools: n8n; Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Stripe API, FirstPromoter Tracking

The industry-specific problem

Duplicate attribution, refunded subscriptions and card-testing activity can inflate commissions. Similar IP addresses or signup names alone can also implicate legitimate customers sharing a corporate network.

02

Step-by-step workflow

  1. Verify Stripe webhook signatures and read authorized FirstPromoter attribution records in n8n.
  2. Deduplicate conversions, reconcile refunds/disputes and apply your documented holding period before commission approval.
  3. Calculate commission eligibility and amount deterministically. Use a supported Claude model only for a review summary, replacing Claude 3.5 Sonnet.
  4. Hold an unpaid internal commission for review using the supported payout system; do not claim the ability to reverse or freeze every Stripe transfer.
  5. Require an authorized review disposition and retain an appealable audit trail before releasing or denying payment.

Visual workflow

Stripe verified payment/refund + FirstPromoter attribution
→ n8n dedup/holding period → deterministic commission
  anomaly → internal unpaid hold → reviewer
  eligible → supported payout release → reconciliation

Specific configuration example

This n8n Code-node fragment consumes a normalized, authenticated event from preceding integration steps. It demonstrates the decision boundary, not a complete API client. Fields are workflow-local mappings, not claimed vendor field names. Upstream credentials, schema validation, permissions, durable reservations and provider operations must be implemented separately. Numeric policy examples are illustrative, not Imperio service terms.

// n8n Code node: example 30-day policy, configured by the operator
const conversion = $json;
const eligible = conversion.payment_verified && !conversion.refunded &&
  !conversion.disputed && conversion.age_days >= 30 &&
  conversion.unique_attribution && conversion.reviewer_approved;
return [{ json: { conversionId: conversion.firstpromoter_conversion_id,
  commissionAction: eligible ? "approve_unpaid_commission" : "hold_for_review",
  stripePaymentId: conversion.stripe_payment_id,
  assumeReleasedFundsReversible: false } }];

Outcome to measure

Illustrative planning metrics only. Not verified client results.

Track duplicate commissions prevented, false-positive holds and payout reconciliation discrepancies. Illustratively, catching five duplicate $120 commissions before release protects $600, without establishing a fraud detection accuracy claim.

06

Compared with manual work or other tools

FirstPromoter’s native rules may suffice for simple programs. n8n adds cross-system reconciliation; dedicated fraud tools and human review are better suited to complex abuse investigation.

Frequently asked questions

Can it instantly freeze any Stripe payout?

No. Capabilities depend on your account, transfer state and payout arrangement.

Is a shared IP address proof of affiliate fraud?

No. It is at most a review signal with legitimate explanations.

What happens when a subscription is refunded after payout?

Apply your contract and supported recovery process; do not assume the payment is reversible.
